How Nutrition Panels Are Actually Verified

By Dr. Samuel Okafor, Analytical Chemist · Updated September 2026

Fresh ingredients laid out before nutrition testing

Every back-of-pack table looks authoritative — neat rows of protein, fat and sugars per hundred grams. What most producers never see is the work that makes those numbers defensible: a structured sequence of preparation, analysis and calculation that leaves no room for optimistic rounding.

It starts with a representative sample

We never test a single retail unit and call it done. For a new panel we composite multiple units from different batches, homogenise them into one uniform mass and sub-sample from that. A crooked sample here skews everything downstream — which is why our sampling technicians are so particular about collection in the first place.

Proximate analysis, one fraction at a time

Moisture goes into the oven; protein is measured by nitrogen determination; fat by extraction; ash by furnace; fibre by enzymatic-gravimetric methods. Carbohydrates — and from them, energy — are calculated by difference. Each fraction has its own instrument, its own calibration record and its own analyst sign-off.

Tolerances are part of the design

Regulations allow defined tolerances around declared values, and honest labels are built inside them deliberately. We report not just the numbers but the confidence around them, so you can declare values that survive a re-test by any enforcement lab in the country.

Need your panel verified?

Send us your product and current label — we'll confirm, correct or rebuild the numbers with full documentation.
